The WF-SME for Modbus enables secure, unidirectional, real time, and foolproof transfer of Modbus data from Industrial networks to Business networks.

The Modbus over TCP/IP Protocol is used to deliver control and monitoring information over a SCADA network. The Modbus is a single layer protocol used directly over the TCP/IP sockets.

Modbus uses TCP/IP as the physical layer used for the data transfer. The Modbus Application Protocol Specification V1.1b document defines that some of the protocol messages used on serial lines are not used over TCP/IP. The Modbus protocol is bidirectional protocol. It enables writing commands to the controlled equipment and reading responses. In addition, the protocol enables file related operations (read and write).

Waterfall® SCADA Monitoring Enabler for Modbus solution topology solution is described in the following drawing:

The WF Modbus agent connected to a Modbus network act as a Modbus entitiy – a Modbus Master or Modbus Slave.

The WF Modbus Master station sends monitoring commands and information request to the Modbus Slave equipment.

The received data is collected in a Database.

The WF Modbus Slave sends responses to the request messages received from the Modbus Master station according to the information collected in the Database.

Waterfall® Security’s SCADA Monitoring Enabler for DNP3 (WF-SME for DNP3) enables secure,
unidirectional, real time, and foolproof transfer of DNP3 data from industrial networks to business and corporate networks.

The DNP3 (Distributed Network Protocol 3) is an open protocol in the SCADA world used to connect control and monitoring critical systems equipment.
The DNP3 is bidirectional protocol used to connect HMI (Human Monitoring interface) control stations to RTU (remote terminal unit (PLC, DCS or IED).

As the control network is spread on large nationwide aria the DNP3 uses TCP/IP and/or UDP/IP sockets as the protocol physical layer.
Adding the IP based network expose the DNP3 for foreign attacks.
The Waterfall SCADA Monitoring Enabler for DNP3 over WAN Line will protect the private critical network form foreign attacks.
